But this is generally too simplistic. Negotiation generally aims to determine an agreed course of action that at least partially satisfies everyone involved. It involves the parties eliciting information from one another in order to determine the issues or elements that truly matter to each side, then the parties compromising in order to reach a workable and enforceable agreement. Complex negotiations will therefore usually conclude with each side having achieved some of its objectives and conceded others. Put simply: negotiation is not a debate. If you don&rsquo;t reach an agreement, both sides lose.</span></span></span></p></div>",
