Tell us about positions of responsibility which you have held (in any area of your life) and what you gained from the experience? (200 words)

As an Outdoor Adventure Counsellor at [US SUMMER CAMP], I held responsibility for the safety and development of campers aged 8-16. My primary responsibility was acting as the archery instructor, a high-risk activity where I was solely accountable for preventing accidents. This required me to analyse risks, from equipment safety to monitoring camper behaviour. I became highly confident in my ability to communicate complex instructions clearly and adapt my teaching style to each individual's needs. I created a client-centric approach, ensuring every camper felt supported and could learn safely.

Beyond teaching, I had to collaborate closely with fellow counsellors to manage our bunk. This involved seamless communication to discreetly handle sensitive issues, such as conflicts between campers. This position of responsibility enhanced my attention to detail and my ability to work within a team, all while maintaining a focus on the well-being of those I was responsible for.

Discuss a commitment in your personal life which says something about your personality? (200 words)

My commitment to widening access to the legal profession is personal. Coming from a state school in rural [REDACTED], I found reliable career guidance to be scarce. This experience now motivates my work as a Project Lead within the [UNIVERSITY LAW PROJECT].

As a Project Lead, I am currently spearheading an initiative to demystify legal career paths. My role involves coordinating interviews with solicitors across different practice areas which we hope to transform their insights into accessible articles for aspiring students. Concurrently, my team is developing a guide on the most effective subjects and extracurriculars for university law applications. We are actively creating the resources that I know are missing.

This commitment reveals my proactive and resourceful nature. I feel a strong personal drive to build solutions that empower others. I find genuine satisfaction in networking with professionals and using my skills to create opportunities, a core trait that I am confident will define my approach to a legal career.

Describe a time where you set yourself a challenging goal, what problems you needed to solve and how you achieved it. (200 words)

During my internship as a Community Hub Development Officer at [LOCAL CHARITY], I set myself the challenging goal of completing Harvard University's 'Computer Science for Lawyers' course. I recognised that developing a foundational knowledge of programming would be critical for a future career in a legal sector increasingly shaped by technology, enhancing the logic and analytical skills required of a commercial solicitor.

The primary challenge was managing the course's demands alongside my internship, reading ahead for university, and other commitments. To solve this, I implemented a time-management framework. I broke down the course into manageable, hour-long sessions scheduled for after work, prioritising tasks by deadline and complexity. This structured approach prevented me from feeling overwhelmed and ensured consistent progress. Crucially, I also scheduled one rest day per week to maintain focus and avoid burnout.

By adhering to this system, I successfully completed the course by the end of my internship. Beyond the skillset I acquired, this experience proved my ability to self-motivate and balance competing priorities under pressure. It gave me a robust methodology for deconstructing complex challenges into actionable steps, a skill I am confident is directly transferable to managing demanding client work as a trainee solicitor.

Summarise your hobbies and interests. If you have none, describe what a perfect weekend would look like to you. (200 words)

My interests are driven by a passion for growth, both physical and intellectual. This is most evident in my commitment to fitness. The same focus that allowed me to lose 16kg since October 2024 is now channelled into bodybuilding and MMA training. Last year, I underwent an intensive 8-week training camp to compete in a charity boxing match, personally raising over £250 for Endometriosis UK. The resilience and dedication I have gained are qualities I now apply to all my goals.

My analytical mindset extends to an interest in capital markets. I actively manage my own investment portfolio and stay current with market trends, which has solidified my ambition to specialise in corporate finance. This fascination with complex systems increasingly draws me to the intersection of finance and technology. I am teaching myself to program and am channelling this passion directly into my dissertation, which critically analyses the classification of digital assets and cryptocurrencies within the framework of Scots property law.
