Personal statement (500 words)

Dear Whom it May Concern,

I am writing to you to apply for the Legal Graduate Scheme at EDF Energy. I am a final-year (Redacted) student at the University of (Redacted), planning to qualify as a solicitor through the SQE route upon completing my degree. I am currently an intern at Patch App and a Student Ambassador for the University of (Redacted). My passion to pursue a career in law was recently cemented after completing a work experience placement at HSC Solicitors. I utilised my learning agility skills to draft various legal documents, such as commercial property leases and residential sale contract. I was able to adapt and work between commercial documents, residential documents and the completion of various administrative duties. Through this placement and other roles I have undertaken, my motivation to pursue a career in law is definite, and I believe I have developed a skillset which will allow me to thrive at EDF.  

EDF’s distinguished reputation as a pioneering force in the industry, demonstrated by being Britain’s biggest generator of zero carbon electricity and working towards Net Zero carbon emissions, illustrates their innovative approach, which resonates with me, as I am an intern at Patch App which revolves around innovation. More specifically, the offer of working with leading industry experts across four rotations throughout EDF allows for the opportunity to build a diverse wealth of experience in stakeholder relationships and negotiations. The purchase of 75% of Areva’s nuclear reactor unit, valued at £2.1 billion, not only demonstrates the quality of experience available but also the calibre of EDF’s legal team internationally. Furthermore, the strong support network provided with mentors and a graduate buddy provides an opportunity to collaborate and leverage expertise, which will be extremely beneficial in development as a trainee. 

I believe my strong drive coupled with my unique skill set strongly position me to contribute to EDF’s success. Throughout my studies and work experience thus far, I have continuously demonstrated a responsible, trustworthy and proactive attitude in all my endeavours. Through working as an intern at Patch App, undertaking a Mini-Pupillage at Rowchester Chambers and working as a Student Ambassador, I have proven my ability to communicate, manage my time and successfully maintain a level of organisation required to effectively fulfil these roles. This, alongside my enthusiasm and commitment to the profession will propel me to achieve my career ambitions of flourishing within the field of law.
