My interest in pursuing a career at a city law firm stems from the desire to work on complex, high-stakes matters in a dynamic and intellectually stimulating environment, assisting and developing relationships with a broad range of industry leading clients. Private equity (PE) is particularly fascinating, as it involves every stage of an investment’s lifecycle, from raising capital to executing exit strategies, such as IPOs or sales. At Paul, Weiss, a firm renowned for its market-leading private equity practice, I would have the opportunity to contribute to transformative deals while developing a deep understanding of this multifaceted sector.
The PE journey begins with raising capital, where structuring investment vehicles and ensuring regulatory compliance are critical. Paul, Weiss’s expertise in capital markets and fund structuring equips the firm to provide innovative solutions at this stage. During my vacation scheme at [redacted] LLP, I gained insight into the complexities of deal structuring, which deepened my appreciation for this foundational stage.

During my winter vacation scheme at [redacted] LLP, I contributed to Financial Restructuring, Finance and Real Estate, and Leveraged Finance. Drafting board minutes for a restructuring client and assisting on a leveraged finance deal required precision, problem-solving, and an ability to deliver under pressure. The “pitch to the client” exercise, where I presented the firm’s strengths to a panel of partners, sharpened my ability to communicate persuasively and demonstrated my focus on delivering client-centred excellence. These experiences enhanced my understanding of transactional processes and reinforced my commitment to adding tangible value.
