Why have you chosen to apply to Anderson Strathern for a summer placement? (100 words)

Anderson Strathern’s expertise in Real Estate, Rural Land and Business aligns with my career aspirations. Boasting one of Scotland’s largest commercial property teams and leading rural department, the firm offers exposure to high quality work in my key interest areas. My passion for property law grew during a shadowing opportunity, where I gained exposure to complex legal problems, realising the synergy with the detail-orientated work and my skill set. Moreover, their experience in renewable energy aligns with my desire to contribute to meaningful projects. Lastly, the sector-focused approach enhances practice expertise, giving trainees the chance to develop their commercial awareness.

What contribution do you think you would make to Anderson Strathern during your summer placement? (200 words)

I believe I have the requisite skills, experience and attitude to make a meaningful contribution to Anderson Strathern. As an individual from an ethnic minority background and the first generation in my family to attend university, I have developed the ability to take initiative and be resourceful. One of the key challenges I will face as a summer intern will be working outside my comfort zone. In similar situations, I have learnt to take a proactive approach. This skill was developed during my time as a customer assistant, where I encountered various customer enquiries, forcing me to think creatively and apply my problem-solving skills.

Additionally, my enthusiastic team spirit and strong time-management skills, illustrated during an insight event at X, where I led a team in creating a short newscast under tight deadlines, demonstrated my ability to collaborate effectively. This showcased my teamwork, leadership and organisational skills – all applicable in a legal context.
